I know I have been MIA lately. Life and work has taken over; but don’t for a second think that has stopped me from expanding my closet!
2017 has so far brought some of my favorite thrifted outfits into the clutches of my un-manicured fingers.
My closet has become Narnia…Every time I open the doors, I walk into a world that sadly does not have a talking lion, but does have close to 65 pairs of shoes. stilettos, wedges and thigh high boots oH MY!
Velvet dresses hang from their hangers and there is chiffon, tulle and lace galore! Sigh.
Anyways like I said 2017 has brought some amazing new looks for me that I get to share with you.
I will start by ringing in the new year with my favorite White- Fur- coat. Sure I look like a giant polar bear but who doesn’t now a days? No but seriously, this coat was my greatest find at the thrift store and not because I paid only $19.99 for it. No I had always wanted a fur coat ever since I saw the episode of Sex and the City where Carrie had on her fur coat. Hers was not white like mine, but oh how I wanted one just like it, just like my fashion icon.
So I go into Savers and there she was hanging on the rack, not another single fur in sight. I hastened over to it and put it in my cart, luckily having to fight off no one. She was so soft and white and oh so pretty and I knew no matter what that she was coming home with me.
And come home with me she did. Talk about being good on a first date! I didn’t even have to buy her dinner.
For 3 years now we have had the best relationship and this year I decided to show her off a little bit and wear her to ring in a brand New Year. Also when it 10 degrees and you are wearing a thin black mini dress, you need something substantial to keep you warm.
When paired with sparkly tights, ($3.99 Savers) a black mini dress with an open back ($9.99 Addicted to Thrift) your new sparkly diamond choker ($4.00 Addicted to Thrift) and of course your all time favorite sparkly 5 inch heels, it is the perfect look even if you have no plans. (Let me tell you though, I ran in those heels like a fucking champ!)
So that was New Years.
The next big holiday is actually not a holiday at all, but it should very well be. What is this mysterious holiday you ask? My Birthday! That’s right I am finally over the hill, and by that I mean I am 26 and can no longer handle my alcohol. Please up until 25, give me a bottle of wine, hold the glass, and wham bam- thank you- mam cuputit, the whole thing is gone. Now that I am 26 it is a struggle just to finish one glass of wine before I hit the sack. The perks of getting older.
Normally I don’t do a lot for my birthday, but this year I decided Why the hell not? I mean I already reached the point of not being able to handle my alcohol anymore so why hold back?
So it was decided than that this was the year that I was going to do something for my birthday! Since I try to always be a relatively classy broad I figured what better way to ring in 26 than going to a girls only brunch with mimosas (duh, like that was ever out of the picture) and listen to live, smooth jazz.
Smooth jazz just kills me. There is just something about the throatiness of the singers voices and the strum of the base that races through my veins and gets me to the point of almost being at that natural high. When I hear it, everything bad or negative just floats right out of me and it is replaced with the lingering swell of the music and I just start to sway….
….or maybe that is just the mimosa kicking in, but either way I let my body sway to the music and am just at peace with life.
Anyways where were we? Right not holding back, being 26, birthday, blah blah blah.
We left off with smooth jazz. So I got a group of my best girlfriends together and we hit up the town. Brunch is a staple in my life, as are many other things so we decided on Lucky’s Lounge in Boston, none of us having ever been there. It had everything we were looking for: Brunch yes, mimosas, yes and live jazz, yes.
Obviously I had to dress to the nines, I mean there was no other question for it. So dress to the nines I did.
I found this metallic bluey black baby doll dress at savers ($3.99) and knew I wanted to wear it. It was the perfect little dress. Of course my white fur coat came along for the ride because well it’s January and my little dress was not going to cut it by itself and it was my birthday so I could do whatever the fuck I wanted. Sparkly tights came along for the ride too because I hadn’t gotten to the part where I shave my legs yet. I paired my dress with another new choker ( this one a gift, so it was free) and my new black boots $7.99 Savers)
In my opinion a perfect outfit for taking on the town.
Both of those were great outfits but my all time favorite dress happened for my birthday dinner.
This is one of those dresses that you buy on occasion where you don’t actually have anywhere to wear it. (Yes I have about 4 of those hanging in various parts of my apartment. They are just to pretty to not be picked up off the rack.)
You never do know if you are actually ever going to wear them, but how can you not get them? They scream “Take me, take me! I will be useful hanging by your window.” So you take them and of course hang them by your window.
Anyways this dress I found, I believe was at Savers, although this time I could be mistaken. Ever since velvet has made a comeback and has been considered cool again, I have been searching for the perfect velvet dress.
I have found a couple but to no avail. Some made me look frumpy. Others made me look like a carpet and yet still i continued the search.
Boy am I glad that I did because I found the perfect black velvet, off the shoulder dress, long dress. Regal, elegant, gave me great cleavage and totally me!
It was decided that I would wear this dress to a birthday dinner. I wanted to feel and look glamorous because that is just what this dress screamed and the dress should be heard.
Bathed, shaved and ready to go, I paired this dress with my new Jessica Simpson metal silver heels, ($7.99 Savers) a simple fake diamond bracelet (another gift) and my faux fur minx. Simple red lip and I must say; DAMN I looked good.
Golden Globes do I hear a new Nominee?
Just wanted to share some of 2017s new looks for you.
I hope you enjoyed and always remember that it can be Grand and Secondhand.
