Tea Time is always the best time.
As you know, Fridays are for the Fabulous and Classy, and what is more classy than a grown up tea party?
I’m not talking about tea parties that you used to have all the time with your stuffed animals sitting around a table. You know the ones I am talking about, where you used to make your dad dress up and wear hats, while you sipped on water or air.
No I’m talking about a tea party just like how the English do it in Downton Abbey……
…the tea party with dainty (and very breakable) China, macaroons, tea biscuits, classy music, all the tea you could ask for and of course your most fashionable dress, hat and shoes.
Sounds like a fabulous afternoon right out of Sex in the City right?
Well you are right and that is just how I got to spend my friday afternoon with a few hours to spare in between jobs.
It started when my friend told me she had the day off. She had never been to Fancy That in Walpole….Best Adult tea party around. So we decided it was time to go and enjoy a fabulously classy afternoon tea.
Obviously it took me a few minutes to pick out the perfect tea party outfit.
I had a simple white and black dress, that had a bit of tulle around the bottom hanging in my closet, never been worn. (Thank you Charlotte York for this inspiring, classy look. It was nowhere near the Park Avenue Princess’ budget, but I will take a $5.99 classy dress any day.)
I paired it with black tights and my favorite black shoes ( mentioned in previous posts). The top of the dress was not my favorite so I tried a few different ways to cover it up. The first looked to old and didn’t flow, the second, was a belted bit that looked ok but I was still not satisfied.
Finally the third was the winner. Third times the charm!
I threw on a Black 60’s inspired throw ($7.99), a faux fur minx scarf ($4.99) and my new never been worn very specific white hat (3.99) to be used on only fabulous occasions, and boom I felt like I belonged at a Grown up tea party. ( All for under $25.00). (My mom saw me, gaped a little bit at this “outfit” and asked me what century I was born in, because apparently my look was not the traditional look you would see today. Totally over it!)
I felt so Fabulous that I may have even done a few laps around my apartment just so I could twirl in my dress and so I could hear my heels clip clopping against the floor…how could you not when you felt so good?
Quick side note: (That is also probably one of my favorite sounds in the whole world. The simple clip clop against the floor just sounds so sophisticated and grown up.)
The afternoon really was something out of a story book, or tv show. We dined at a table with lace tablecloths and very fancy tea cups. We enjoyed cranberry orange tea bread, lemon drizzled gingerbread scones, cucumber sandwiches, our all time favorite cookies, French Macaroons and two tea pots full of a Pudding Tea, and a Sugar Plum Fairy tea.
Simply divine. Today was definitely a Grand Secondhand day!
If you ever have time off on a friday, or any day for that matter, I suggest digging through your closet, throwing on that fabulous outfit, and having a nice afternoon tea with your girlfriends. It is really the best way of living.
Always remember that “Life is like a cup of tea….it’s all in how you make it.”
