(I know it is Saturday today but I ran out of time yesterday to post. My other Fabulous Fridays will be posted on Fridays.)
T.G.I.F (Thank God It’s Fabulous) for sure!
It’s the end of the week and just think; You have two days off from work and if you are anything like me, wine is waiting for you when you come home, which is always always a good thing. You feel free and Fabulous! (I mean you can’t really be sad on a fri-YAY!)
Free and Fabulous were the two words that really inspired me for Fabulous Fridays. (Fabulous was an obvious choice of course)
Fabulous Fridays are a chance for you to not only feel Fabulous about life, but also gives you a chance to explore my not so much a walk in, more of just a regular (sad) closet. You get to see some of my favorite pieces that I have collected through the years of thrifting. I will also show you how to effortlessly put together some of my favorite outfits fit for any occasion.
You will also learn some thrifting fun 101 and you will have a great chance to get some inspiration for your own wardrobe. (If of course you like the same things that I do.) As I always like to say “One man’s trash is another mans treasure.”
Now a quick side note, whenever I go thrifting I always try to imagine where these clothes were before me. Where did they travel from? Have they been worn by someone famous? What have these clothes been through?
I feel that every article of clothing that I find has a story to it. It may sound silly but if you listen carefully enough, clothes and shoes have a story to tell, especially secondhand clothes.
The first piece this week that I am going to show you is, literally, a piece that started the whole look for me. No, I didn’t start planning my look around my shoes first, or the skirt I was going to wear. I started planning this outfit based solely around the necklace pictured above. (I imagined this necklace being worn at a fashion show during NYC Fashion week…high hopes I know!)
This necklace is a very bold, dramatic and obviously chunky statement accessory. An accessory made to stand out from the rest of my outfit. That being said, I knew the rest of my outfit had to be simple yet elegant, and easy to wear yet comfortable. (I work in an office building during the morning and with kids in the afternoon, with no rest in between, so it has to be a very versatile outfit. Easy and breezy to chase kids with and calm and collected for typing on my computer. You would think there was a magician on call 24/7 for all of the versatility.)
Hanging in my closet, I have a simple dress from WetSeal, for $8.99 on sale, (from back in the days when I used to shop at retail stores, yuck I know). It is all black with a crop-top built into a medium length skirt, skirting a little past my knees. Length is very office appropriate.
Even though the weather that day was supposed to be 70’s and sunny, you just never know with New England weather, (snow in October before Halloween, Summer Day in the middle of February…I think you get the idea) so I paired my black ensemble with a mustard yellow cardigan from Savers $6.99. It gave my outfit a nice pop of color and it gave me assurance, that if there was a cold front, I would be warm. (You have no idea how long it actually took me to find a mustard button up cardigan. I have been trolling the thrift stores for months looking for the right mustard color and the right fit.)
**Thrifitng Tip ** Mustard color is very in for the fall and very hard to find. Get it while you can right away. You may not find it again for a while.
My look was almost perfect. All that was missing were the shoes, and the best part to any outfit if you ask me. These shoes, I might add, are my all time favorite shoes!
When I found these shoes at the Savers in Norwood, for $9.99, I almost surpassed them. I thought they were a bit outdated for the fashion I had in mind. Than I decided to just try them on to see how they fit and let me tell you; I slid my feet into the shoes and it was like a little piece of heaven had fallen from the sky onto my foot. They fit my feet so well and they looked even better. Cinderella sure had some competition in the perfect fitting shoe department. (All that I was missing was my prince to put them on my feet, but my husband flat out refused. Do I hear divorce soon…Just kidding!)
My simple, elegant and fabulous outfit, for a total of $30.96, was finally complete! I kept hair in a loose up do and my makeup was minimal except for a bright red lip.
Easy enough to pair up, easy to make an elegant statement, very affordable and fabulous enough for a Fabulous Friday! This outfit is great for a day in the office and flexible enough to chase 2nd and 3rd graders around the gym. (Kid Tested, Teacher Approved)
I have more secrets hanging in my closet and I can’t wait to share them with you! Keep being Fabulous and always remember that it can be Secondhand and Grand!
